San Diego Padres
The Miracle League of San Diego enjoys an important partnership with the San Diego Padres that began with the San Diego Padres Foundation?s cash contributions and donation of the PA System and Electronic Scoreboard and corresponding designation of Engel Family Field as a Little Padres Park. Since opening in 2007, the Padres organization has provided support annually through monetary contributions, donations of game tickets to Miracle League players and their families, sponsorship of donor relation events and more. The Swinging Friar and Pad Squad are frequent attendees at Opening Day celebrations twice a year and at other special events such as the Home Run Derby. The Padres also send many past and former players and management personnel to participate in the annual Celebrity Pitcher Day, which is now combined with Halloween Costume Day. Junior Seau Foundation
The Junior Seau Foundation?s mission is to educate and empower young people through the support of child abuse prevention, drug and alcohol awareness, recreational opportunities, anti-juvenile delinquency efforts and complimentary educational programs. In 2011, the Foundation initiated a three-year partnership with the Miracle League of San Diego whereby it is contributing $10,000 each year to underwrite the costs of all the uniforms for our participants. Junior Seau?s tragic death in 2012 took from the San Diego Community an incredible human being with unsurpassed energy and passion. Junior was one of the celebrity pitchers at our 2011 event and his joy brought smiles to everyone in attendance. In December 2012, the Brees Dream Foundation donated $55,000 to the Miracle League of San Diego in honor of Junior Seau.
University of San Diego Baseball
The Miracle League of San Diego appreciates its partnership with the University of San Diego baseball team. Since 2010, USD has hosted an annual Player Skills Clinic held in the fall at Engel Family Field led by Coach Rich Hill. Miracle League players have the opportunity to practice hitting, throwing, fielding and running the bases. Every Miracle League player enjoys the one-on-one time with nationally ranked college athletes while improving their baseball skills. The Player Skills Clinic is open to all Miracle Leaguers, whether they play at Engel Family Field or Green Field.
